A letter that claimed to be contaminated with poison was sent on Monday to the home of U.S. Sen. Susan Collins in Bangor, leading police to shut down an adjacent road for several hours, according to her spokeswoman.

AUGUSTA, Maine - Police in Maine's capital say a 50-pound piglet that wore itself out dodging traffic after escaping has been safely returned home.

Several law enforcement agencies went to Republican U.S. Sen. Susan Collins’ private residence in Bangor to investigate what is being called a “suspicious letter.”

Bangor police Sgt. Wade Betters says his agency was contacted just after 1:30 p.m. by U.S. Capital Police. While he says he can’t provide any information about the nature of the letter, he says there’s no ongoing threat.

“We have no information to suggest that anybody in the public or public at large or anybody is in any danger,” he says.
