473 Degrees Awarded on Saturday at Bowdoin

BRUNSWICK, ME_  473 students graduated from Bowdoin College on Saturday. As has been the tradition since Bowdoin’s first graduation ceremony in 1806, commencement addresses were delivered by graduating seniors. Chosen by competition were Stephanie “Stevie” Lane, and Jared Littlejohn.

Greetings  to the Class of 2015 were offered by Bowdoin College alum, and former Olympian Joan Benoit Samuelson.

Among the field was the sixth and final brother in a single family of all Bowdoin grads.
"We're very pleased that all six of them were able to attend here and had a great education and training." said Jacques Larochelle of Bangor, whose youngest son- also named Jacques- was the family's final son to finish at Bowdoin. Jacques the younger  plans to follow two of his brothers and attend medical school.  His brothers work in medicine, pharmaceuticals, biotech, and asset management.

53 of the 473 grads were from Maine, the rest from 36 states and 19 countries and territories.

2015  was also the final commencement for President Barry Mills; he's stepping down in July after 14 years as head of the liberal arts college.

On Sunday, students at Colby College in Waterville get their turn, with film icon Robert Redford as the commencement speaker.
