Boater Spots Fire on Portland's Waterfront

PORTLAND, Maine — Firefighters responded quickly to control a fire in an empty warehouse on Portland's waterfront that was first spotted by a boater.

Fire Chief Jerome LaMoria says the fire department was contacted by a boater around 7:10 p.m. Monday. The boater reported seeing flames inside a commercial building on Maine Wharf, behind the Dry Dock Restaurant and Tavern.

He says it took firefighters a few minutes to locate the fire because it could only be seen from the harbor.

He says once found, it was quickly extinguished.

The building is undergoing renovations.

No one was injured and the cause remains under investigation.
