The U.S. House of Representatives is abandoning their investigation into whether President Donald Trump’s campaign colluded with the Russian government to alter the 2016 election.
Democratic U.S. Rep. Chellie Pingree says the decision to halt the House Intelligence Committee’s inquiry “was absolutely premature” and could impact how people perceive elections going forward.
Pingree says the committee usually functions along nonpartisan lines but said Republicans seemed intent on protecting the president during this investigation.
“It’s very clear that there’s a lot of information that we should have, particularly as we’re leading up to the next election cycle. They’re just stopping too soon,” she says.
The Senate Intelligence Committee will continue a parallel investigation.
