The Economics of Compassion in Maine

The Economics of Compassion in Maine

Speaking in Maine featured Suzanne McCormick, President & CEO of the United Way of Greater Portland. She discussed "the Economics of Compassion in Maine," the real and tangible benefits realized by the community as a result of making investments in the lives of others.

Ms. McCormick's talk offers support for her argument that so often we think about what it will take to help unknown individuals in our community who are in need or struggling, we consider what we can afford to give away. Less often do we think about the economic impact or gain that act of giving may bring back to our community.

This talk was recorded on August 18, 2010 in Portland at the Cumberland Club as a part of that organization's ongoing Joshua Chamberlain Lecture Series.
