Fish Farm Developers Change Course In Permit Process

The Maine Department of Environmental Protection is asking a company seeking to build one of the world's largest salmon farms for more information on waste discharge plans.

Last week, the state asked Nordic Aquafarms Inc. to submit more information to show exactly where the proposed salmon farm's waste discharge pipe will be placed at the Belfast development. The Bangor Daily News reports the department is also asking for information that would prove the company has the right to build it.

An attorney for Nordic Aquafarms has sent a letter to the department, requesting the state Board of Environmental Protection take jurisdiction over the project's waste discharge permit application.
