Former Nursing Home Where Residents Mistreated To Go Up For Auction

PENOBSCOT, Maine - A former Maine nursing home where residents were mistreated will be auctioned off. The Bangor Daily News reports the Northern Bay Residential Living Center in Penobscot will go up for auction on Nov. 20.Tranzon Auction Properties is handling the sale.
 
The center was closed in 2016 following an investigation that found a list of issues. Inspectors cited an alleged sexual assault at the nursing home that happened in 2014. According to the report, another patient died the same year after falling.
 
Inspectors found poor physical conditions in the kitchen and laundry rooms. According to officials, there were inadequate doctor visits, as well.
 
Town records show the facility's owner paid $15,739 in property taxes in 2014.
   
 Penobscot officials declined to comment on the sale.
