Gov. Paul LePage is recovering after being hospitalized for “experiencing discomfort” while visiting family in New Brunswick, Canada. The exact cause for his hospitalization is unclear.

According to a press release from the his office, 69-year-old LePage first went to a hospital in New Brunswick, and from there was taken to Presque Isle by ambulance before being transferred to Eastern Maine Medical Center in Bangor around 11:30 p.m. Saturday.

First lady Ann LePage accompanied the governor.

LePage spokesman Peter Steele confirmed Monday afternoon that the governor had returned to the Blaine House in Augusta, "resting and getting ready to return to work in the next couple of days. He and his family thank everyone for their concerns and well wishes."

In Nov. 2017, LePage said that he had beenhit by a carwhile cycling in Florida and needed shoulder surgery as a result. In Sept. 2016, the governor had bariatric surgery, resulting in significant weight loss.
