LePage Undecided About Clean Elections Appeal

Gov. Paul LePage says that he has not decided what his next step will be after a Maine Superior Court justice ordered the release of about $1.4 million in Clean Elections funds before next Tuesday.

“I am going to take the weekend and think about what we are going to do,” says LePage. “We got several options, and we are looking at different options.”

LePage declined to say what options he is considering, but he acknowledged his constitutional authority to ask the state Supreme Court for an advisory opinion. He says he “takes offense” at the judge telling state finance officials to transfer the money to the Ethics Commission over his objections. He says such action goes against years of precedent.

“He is taking a commissioner, who works…. who works for the Governor and tells ‘the Governor is out of this, and you are going to do what I tell you’ and I take offense to that.” LePage says.
