Maine-Based Robotic Land Vehicle Company To Be Sold To Rhode Island Firm

A Providence-based company that designs and builds weapons and vehicle systems for the U.S. military is planning to buy a Maine-based company that makes robotic land vehicles.Textron Systems says its acquisition of Howe and Howe Technologies of Waterboro will enable it to produce a range of autonomous air, land and sea platforms , and make it an industry leader.   

Among Howe and Howe's products are the Ripsaw, an unmanned lightweight tank,  and robotic fire fighting vehicles.   

Textron's brands include Bell, Cessna, Beechcraft and Arctic Cat.

Ed is a Maine native who spent his early childhood in Livermore Falls before moving to Farmington. He graduated from Mount Blue High School in 1970 before going to the University of Maine at Orono where he received his BA in speech in 1974 with a broadcast concentration. It was during that time that he first became involved with public broadcasting. He served as an intern for what was then called MPBN TV and also did volunteer work for MPBN Radio.
