Maine Closes Some State Offices For George H.W. Bush Funeral

Gov. Paul LePage has ordered nonessential state offices to close Wednesday, the day of former President George H.W. Bush’s funeral in Washington. The 41st president spent nearly every summer of his life in Kennebunkport.

The new Legislature will gather tomorrow at the State House for their swearing in. Lawmakers will then proceed to formally elect their leaders and the constitutional officers: attorney general, secretary of state and state treasurer.

Among the departments that will be closed tomorrow is the agency that oversees drivers license exams. The Bureau of Motor Vehicles is canceling all drivers license examinations scheduled for tomorrow. Mobile units will not be making their regularly scheduled visits to Dover-Foxcroft and Farmington. Exams will automatically be rescheduled.
