The federal government this week awarded community health centers in Maine $1.4 million in quality improvement grants.
Darcy Shargo, CEO the Maine Primary Care Association, says the grants recognize the contributions the health centers are making to quality health care, “and to hopefully driving down costs as a result as well. But also as continuing investment for them to keep doing that good work."
Shargo says the centers typically use the grants to pilot new programs to better manage chronic conditions or to expand access to health care.
"And we had a couple of those in the state,” she says. “Actually, one up in Aroostook County who got a $15,000 award for addressing health disparities in particular.”
Eighteen health organizations are receiving grants.
