Maine gets $15M for Low Income Housing

AUGUSTA, Maine (AP) _ Maine is getting $15 million from the federal government to develop housing in low-income communities and improve emergency shelters for homeless individuals and their families.

Sens. Susan Collins and Angus King say that the funding will help people who are struggling to maintain a stable home and focus on a path forward.

Maine was awarded the funds through three grant programs in the U.S. Department of Housing and Urban Development. The money will go toward creating more housing options for low-income families, increasing the number of emergency shelters for the homeless and trying to improving the quality of shelters, among other things.
