Maine Senators Support Reauthorizing Fed Conservation Fund

Maine's two senators are joining with colleagues to call for the permanent reauthorization of the Land and Water Conservation Fund.

Republican Susan Collins and independent Angus King are working with the other senators to introduce legislation to reauthorize the program, which lapsed in September 2018. Congress established the Land and Water Conservation Fund more than 50 years ago to guarantee access to outdoor spaces for Americans.

Collins and King say the reauthorization would improve conservation and recreation efforts in Maine and around the country. King says the reauthorization of the program has been ``subject to the whims of unrelated debates'' in the past.

The fund has supported more than 42,000 state and local projects around the country over the years.
