The Maine Tourism Association says it's going to help businesses find seasonal workers, to address the tourism industry's workforce shortage. In a release, the association says finding seasonal workers is one of the biggest challenges that members face.
Very low unemployment rates, and continuing uncertainty about the policies governing temporary foreign workers, are creating serious worry in the hospitality industry.
The new service will find employees in other states, provide background checks, and arrange for transportation. The Tourism Association also plans to offer basic hospitality skills training.
The new service will start as a pilot this coming summer with a few businesses, and expand to more employers in the future.
