Parts Of New England Still Dry Despite Rains

CONCORD, N.H. - A drought-tracking service says that dry conditions are expanding across the Northeast due to warmer than average temperatures. The National Drought Monitor said Thursday that areas from Connecticut to Maine were found to be abnormally dry or enduring moderate drought conditions. Rains that fell in New York prevented "further degradation" near the Canadian border and other areas soaked this week will see those results reflect in next week's maps. In New Hampshire, the state Department of Environmental Services says that 47 communities have some water restrictions with 21 of them being mandatory. The rules restrict outdoor water use, including none for landscaping and limiting any watering to nighttime - between 7 p.m. and 8 a.m. Much of New Hampshire faced moderate to extreme drought conditions in 2016.
