Police: Howland Man Shot By Trooper in Confrontation

Police say a 36-year-old man was shot by a Maine State Police trooper during a confrontation inside the man's Howland home.

Police say the man who was shot early Saturday, 36-year-old Dale Saucier, was taken to the Eastern Maine Medical Center in Bangor.

Saucier's condition was unknown. Police say he was undergoing surgery.

Campbell went to Saucier's home just before midnight for a well-being check after a call from Saucier.

Police say Saucier was shot by Trooper Benjamin Campbell, who was not injured.

As is routine in police shooting cases, Campbell has been placed on administrative leave with pay while the shooting is investigated.

The Maine attorney general's office is leading the investigation into the incident.
