Tired of Burglaries, Man Buys Gun, Shoots Would-be Thief

ROCKLAND, Maine - A retired Maine lobsterman told a friend over the weekend he was fed up with having his apartment burglarized and bought a gun to defend himself against would-be thieves.

Just after midnight Tuesday he did just that, pulling his vintage revolver from beneath his pillow and shooting an intruder.

Harvey Lembo tells thePortland Press Herald  he bought the 1941 Russian-made revolver Monday after he was burglarized five times in six years.

The 67-year-old Lembo says he never planned on using it until 45-year-old Christopher Wildhaber broke into the apartment then bolted toward his front door to flee. Officers followed a trail of blood to find Wildhaber shot in the shoulder.

He was charged with burglary and violating probation. It couldn't immediately be learned if he has a lawyer.
