Unemployment Rates Up In Maine's Cities

Unemployment rates rose slightly in June in all three of Maine's major urban areas.

The Federal Bureau of Labor Statistics reported Wednesday that Bangor's unemployment rate rose to 3.3 percent, up from 3 percent in May.

Portland-South Portland had a 2.7 percent jobless rate in June, up from 2.4 percent in May.

Lewiston-Auburn's unemployment rate took the biggest jump, up .4 percent in June to 3.2 percent. The June increases still left the unemployment rates slightly lower in all three metro areas than they were in June of 2017.

New Hampshire's three major urban areas maintained ultra-low unemployment rates last month. Dover-Durham and Manchester were at 2.5 percent, Portsmouth at 2.4 percent.
