Angus King, Independent, was elected to the U.S. Senate in 2012. He earlier served two terms as Governor of Maine (1995-2003). In his career, King has worked in particular on issues related to economic development, technology, and the environment. He has regularly sought to frame bi-partisan solutions to policy problems.

Having been elected many times to both the Maine House of Representatives and Maine Senate, Libby Mitchell is the first woman in U.S. history to have held both a House Speakership and Senate Presidency.
