PORTLAND, Maine - A Maine company and an Icelandic businessman are partnering to establish a business incubator on Portland's waterfront that commercializes new products related to the ocean.
Portland officials are announcing the new enterprise on Thursday. The Iceland Ocean Cluster led by Thor Sigfusson is working with North Atlantic Assets & Soli DG Inc. to create the New England Ocean Cluster. Portland city officials say the cluster's goal will be to create, encourage and spin off new companies and products.
Sigfusson calls the facility "an environment where collaboration among our members happens naturally'' and leads to business growth. City officials say the cluster will focus on industries including food processing, boat building, energy production and pharmaceuticals.
The Iceland Ocean Cluster works with 35 companies in Reykjavik.
