BRUNSWICK, Maine — Construction will be allowed to continue on a 650-foot-by-70-foot layover facility in Brunswick that will service Amtrak Downeaster trains overnight.
The Northern New England Passenger Rail Authority had received its final permit for the facility from the state Department of Environmental Protection in early October.
But the Brunswick West Neighborhood Coalition appealed the permit, claiming that the department didn't follow the proper process and that too much water will come from the building.
DEP officials said the agency's engineer believed the designs were adequate to handle the storm water runoff.
WCSH-TV reports the Board of Environmental Protection voted Thursday to reject the group's appeal, meaning that construction can continue.
