UMaine's Ocean Simulator to Carry Alfond Name

ORONO, Maine - The University of Maine's new ocean engineering laboratory is going to bear the name of the late philanthropist Harold Alfond.

The center that was formally dedicated on Monday is going to be called the Harold Alfond Ocean Engineering and Advanced Manufacturing Laboratories.

The $13.8 million ocean simulator will help to determine if offshore wind power components can withstand the sea's fury.

Among those attending the event were Sens. Susan Collins and Angus King, Rep. Bruce Poliquin, University of Maine President Susan Hunter, and Greg Powell, chairman of the Harold Alfond Foundation.
