Lewiston Considers Big Potential Development Near Interstate

LEWISTON, Maine - Lewiston officials are considering a developer's plan to develop a 426-acre site at the Interstate 95 interchange.

The Sun Journal reports that developer Dave Gendron could fit 2.1 million square feet of commercial and warehouse space, 771,000 square feet of retail and office space and 200 hotel rooms on the site over 30 years.

City Council members are also considering a smaller, shorter-term deal that would create about 168,600 square feet of new retail space. The project would be anchored by an unnamed big-box retailer.

The development is the subject of a 6 p.m. special meeting of the City Council on Wednesday. The council will also discuss property tax incentives related to the project.
