Freeport Will Stop Shutting Down Main Street For Shoppers

Freeport will no longer close the town’s Main Street following business-owners’ complaints.

Town officials intended the effort to boost socially distanced access to stores but several businesses have reported a decrease in foot traffic and overall sales in the area.

The Press Herald reports the closures began July 4 with city officials saying they would re-evaluate the plan’s effectiveness weekly.
