Virtual Discussion of Rachel Carson’s The Sea Around Us
Virtual Discussion of Rachel Carson’s The Sea Around Us
Seeking interested persons to join a Discussion Project (date/time TBD) hosted by Women Mind the Water and the Maine Humanities Council. The Discussion Project will focus on The Sea Around Us, the book that brought national attention to Rachel Carson, an American marine biologist and author who credited with advancing the global environmental movement. Because Carson’s book was published 70 years ago, it offers an opportunity to reevaluate our relationship with the ocean and each other. This reflection is particularly relevant given the rapidly warming ocean temperatures in the Gulf of Maine, a situation that impacts precipitation patterns, storm frequency and severity, ocean acidity and the overall character of the Gulf ecosystem.
