Stars over Saint Croix Island

October 1st is International Observe the Moon night and Downeast Amateur Astronomers and your local national park, Saint Croix Island International Historic Site, will be cohosting a star party. The night begins at 6:30 p.m. at the park, 84 Saint Croix Drive about 8 miles south of Calais on Route 1.

The free night of stargazing will include Night Explorer Junior Ranger activity books and activities for kids 6-12 – and anyone else that may want to join in! The night will include looking at a variety of local planets and deep space object. The night is weather dependent, clouds or rain will cancel the event. Limited parking is available in visitor center parking lot and behind the visitor center. Sky viewing begins at 6:30 and there will be telescopes set up for you to view through or bring your own if you like. Don’t forget, you also can look at the sky through binoculars!
