AUGUSTA, Maine - A federal judge has ruled that a whistle-blower lawsuit against the state of Maine can move forward.
The Portland Press Herald reports that a U.S. District Court judge ruled Friday that Sharon Leahy-Lind and Katie Woodbury can proceed with their lawsuit against the Maine Center for Disease Control.
The state sought to have the case dismissed.
Leahy-Lind, a former director of the Division of Local Health, says she was retaliated against when she refused to shred public documents related to a grant program. Woodbury, a current office manager for the CDC, has also joined the lawsuit.
The two are seeking compensation, punitive damages, legal fees and for it to be declared they acted lawfully.
