Man Who Fired Shots With Kids Nearby Gets 18 Years

PORTLAND, Maine - A Maine man accused of chasing and firing at another man as children were preparing to catch their school bus is going to prison for 18 years for being a felon in possession of ammunition.

Forty-four-year-old Jerome Hudson was subject to enhanced sentence guidelines because of prior convictions for drug offenses and violent crimes in Massachusetts, where he lived before moving to Lewiston.

Officials say Hudson was living in his girlfriend's apartment in January when he got into an argument with the father of her children who'd arrived to help get them on the school bus.

Police say Hudson fired multiple shots outside when children were present. Police never recovered the gun but found 38 rounds of ammunition in a safe. Hudson pleaded guilty in June.
