Maine Man Who Shook Baby Gets 7 Years in Prison

AUGUSTA, Maine - A Maine man who violently shook and severely injured his baby daughter has been sentenced to seven years in prison.

Kennebec County District Attorney Maeghan Maloney said 22-year-old Kevin Peaslee must report to serve his sentence on Monday.

The Kennebec Journal reports that Peaslee told the judge Friday that his daughter was fussy and he was frustrated the day he shook her. He called it a "horrible mistake.'' The baby is now a spastic quadriplegic and cannot see or hear.

He pleaded guilty to one count of aggravated assault last month.

The case drew national attention because of a legal battle over the state's attempt to impose a do-not-resuscitate order over the mother's objection. Maine's supreme court dismissed the mother's appeal after the state agreed to abide by her wishes.
