Maine Police Arrest Pennsylvania Prison Escapee

WELLS, Maine - Maine state police say they arrested a Pennsylvania escape on the Maine Turnpike.

Police say 34-year-old Derek Lee Black of Albion, Pennsylvania, was a passenger in a car driven by a Bangor woman that was stopped at 4 a.m. Monday near the Ogunquit-Wells line. Black had been missing since March from an Erie, Pennsylvania, correctional facility.

Police say a trooper questioned Black, who gave a false name. A fingerprint check at York County Jail later confirmed his real identity. He was jailed in Pennsylvania on drug charges and later disappeared from a hospital where he was receiving treatment for a cut.

The Bangor woman, 26-year-old Mindy Baxter, was summonsed for operating a vehicle with a restricted license. It was unclear if Baxter or Black had a lawyer.
