Maine Police Arrest Suspect in New Hampshire Sex Assaults

PORTSMOUTH, N.H. - Police in Portsmouth, New Hampshire say a man suspected in multiple rapes has been arrested in Maine.

Authorities say 21-year-old James Banks of Portsmouth is being held as a fugitive from justice in York, Maine.

Portsmouth police tell WMURthat Banks is charged in New Hampshire with three counts of aggravated felonious sexual assault, two counts of second-degree assault, and kidnapping and criminal restraint.

Police say they have been investigating the reported assaults since January and believe Banks used social media to contact his victims and arrange to meet them in Portsmouth.

It wasn't immediately known when Banks would be returned to New Hampshire or whether he has a lawyer.
