Teen Charged With Killing Father in Maine Appears in Court

BELFAST, Maine - A Maine teenager charged with fatally stabbing his father will remain in detention following his initial court appearance.

The 16-year-old boy - who wore jeans and a Patriots hoodie to court - entered no plea Friday to charges that he killed 49-year-old Steven Hodgdon of Troy last month in their home.

Details about the crime remain scarce. The judge sealed the state police affidavit detailing the grounds for arrest.

The investigation began after Hodgdon was found unresponsive in his home March 8. The state medical examiner's office says he died from a stab wound to the chest.

The Associated Press generally does not identify juveniles charged with crimes. Officials say the teen will be held until a juvenile corrections officer can make a recommendation on whether he should be released.
