Paris Police Chief Charged With Drunken Driving Pleads Guilty

PORTLAND, Maine — A Maine police chief is apologizing after pleading guilty to drunken driving charges.

Paris Chief Michael Madden said after Tuesday's court hearing that his behavior was "unprofessional" and "atrocious."

The Sun Journal reports that Madden reached a deal under which he was fined $500 and lost his driver's license for five months. For the first month he will have no right to drive at all, but for the remaining time he will be allowed to drive after blowing into a device to prove he is sober.

Madden was pulled over in Naples in November by a Cumberland County sheriff's sergeant, who said Madden crossed the center line several times and left his blinker on.

His blood-alcohol content was at or above the legal limit for driving.
