Man Charged After Shootings Kill 3 To Make Court Appearance

A 63-year-old Northfield man charged with murder in connection with three shooting deaths Monday in Washington County is expected to make his first court appearance Wednesday.Officials say Thomas Bonfanti is scheduled to appear in Calais District Court at 10:30 a.m. Bonfanti is accused of shooting four people, two men and two women,  and killing three of them.  

An injured woman, who officials have not yet identified, was taken to a hospital. Her condition is unknown.

State Police say the shootings occurred at three different residences in Machias and Jonesboro.  Authorities say Bonfanti knew the victims but they haven't released a motive for the shootings.

Ed is a Maine native who spent his early childhood in Livermore Falls before moving to Farmington. He graduated from Mount Blue High School in 1970 before going to the University of Maine at Orono where he received his BA in speech in 1974 with a broadcast concentration. It was during that time that he first became involved with public broadcasting. He served as an intern for what was then called MPBN TV and also did volunteer work for MPBN Radio.
