The police chief of Dover-Foxcroft has been arrested for allegedly attempting to strangle a woman and then threatening her with a gun.
Ryan Reardon was arrested in Bangor Wednesday night on a warrant issued by Piscataquis County for an incident that allegedly took place on August 23.
According to the arrest warrant, Reardon was in a personal relationship with the woman he is accused of assaulting.
He faces charges of Class B aggravated assault and Class C domestic violence criminal threatening with a dangerous weapon. An initial court appearance is set for 1 p.m. Friday in Penobscot County Superior Court.
Reardon has been the Chief of Police in Dover-Foxcroft for three years. Prior to that, he worked law enforcement with the Kennebec County Sheriff's Department, as well as with the cities of Waterville and Oakland.
