GRAY, Maine - After two back-to-back harsh winters, Maine is in the grip of a heat wave that's likely to continue for a couple of weeks.
Michael Kistner of the National Weather Service says the region will likely see record highs on Thursday.
"Yeah, basically we had a persistent ridge pretty much over the eastern half of the United States, and that has allowed us to have well above average temperatures here for much of the month of December," Kistner says. "And that ridge really amplifies tonight and into tomorrow."
Kistner says much of Maine could see temperatures into the mid and upper 60's, with areas of New Hampshire reaching into the 70's. And he says the pattern is likely to persist for the next 10 days to two weeks. But what happens after that, he says, is anyone's guess.
