Corrections Department Reports 12 COVID-19 Cases In Windham Inmates
The Maine Department of Corrections announced Thursday that 12 inmates have tested positive for COVID-19 at the Maine Correctional Center in Windham. The inmates were identified for testing as part of MCC’s contact tracing following a symptomatic inmate.
Department of Corrections Commissioner Randy Liberty says face coverings are mandatory and enforced, and officials are working to determine how the virus entered the facility and spread.
MDOC says that universal testing is being undertaken at the prison.
Additionally, the department has suspended visits to both the Windham facility and the Maine State Prison in Warren, and canceled all county-jail intakes and transfers.
The outbreak is still under investigation.
