Man Drowns in Lake at Maine Campground

SCARBOROUGH, Maine (AP) _ Authorities say a man has drowned while swimming in a lake at a Maine campground.
 
    Police say the 45-year-old man, who had been drinking, tried to swim to a small island in the lake at Wassamki Springs Campground, which is in Scarborough and Gorham.
 
    The man began to have difficulty at about 2:20 p.m. Sunday.
 
    The victim's body was recovered from the water by family members and witnesses and taken to the island. They performed CPR there until he was transferred back to the campground.
 
    Gorham and Scarborough emergency responders tried unsuccessfully to revive the man.
 
    His name was not immediately made public.
 
    The death remains under investigation.
