SKOWHEGAN, Maine (AP) _ A New Hampshire fire department formerly led by the recently-fired chief of the Skowhegan, Maine, fire department is facing a criminal investigation about missing money.
The Morning Sentinel reports that Richard E. Fowler Jr. was chief of the Farmington, New Hampshire, department during the period covered in the investigation. Fowler was fired as Skowhegan chief on Friday without town officials citing a specific reason.
Strafford County Attorney Thomas Velardi says the county has "opened a criminal investigation in regards to the possible theft of revenues'' from the town of Farmington. He says the investigation focuses on the fire department.
Fowler became Skowhegan fire chief in May at a salary of $56,000. Fowler declined to comment to the Morning Sentinel about his firing.
