SIDNEY, Maine — A fire at a Sidney home day care center sent children and staff scrambling for safety, but there were no reports of injuries.
The blaze at Jen's Day Care was reported at about noon Wednesday. Four children in the home were taken to another location.
Firefighters say the ranch-style home was fully involved by the time they arrived and smoke and flames were shooting out of the building.
Fire Chief Richard Jandreau says ammunition was stored in one of the bedrooms and firefighters reported hearing explosions when they arrived.
Firearms are allowed in the house under the condition that the guns are locked and the ammunition is stored in a separate location.
The cause remains under investigation but is believed to be accidental.
