HOWLAND, Maine - At least 40 Maine homeowners have told the Maine attorney general that a natural gas contractor took thousands of dollars in deposit money from them for work that was never done.
NECNreports homeowners say they hired Dave Ireland Builders of Howland to convert home heating systems to natural gas after Summit Natural Gas promoted Ireland in literature to customers. Ireland closed his business last week. He says he plans to repay the 50 to 70 customers who have him deposits.
A Summit spokesman says the company is focused on its customers and is "doing as much as possible to help them convert to natural gas.'' The company is offering to help affected customers find other contractors.
