South Berwick Police Fatally Shoot Suicidal Woman

SOUTH BERWICK, Maine — Police say they shot and killed a 55-year-old woman after she made calls indicating she wanted to kill herself then pointed a gun at officers.

The Portsmouth Herald reports that Karin Moller had called police dispatchers and medical personnel around noon Thursday and said she was suicidal.

York Police Chief Douglas Bracy tells the paper that with police surrounding her home, medical staff and dispatchers tried to talk Moller out of killing herself. After about 45 minutes, she became angry and drove off.

After police stopped her vehicle using spike strips, Bracy says she got out of the SUV, walked toward a South Berwick officer and pointed a gun at him. Another officer had arrived and when Moller refused to drop the gun, they shot her.
