PORTLAND, Maine - With heavy snow falling in many parts of the state, municipal workers are working overtime to try and keep up with the latest storm.

Portland Public Works Director Mike Bobinsky says his department is in "active response" to the current storm, and is anticipating anywhere from 7 to 14 inches of snow by the end of this evening.

Bobinsky says the priority is to ensure access for public safety vehicles throughout the city. "We're focusing on the Maine arterials and collectors," he says. "We're also - as time allows, we'll be back through the secondary streets later in the day."

Bobinsky says Portland has about 40 snow plow vehicles in operation this afternoon, and most employees are working 16 hour shifts.

He says more snow is expected later this week.
