AUGUSTA, Maine - An educational program at Cony High School in Augusta is getting a $200,000 boost The Jobs for Maine Graduates program announced the AT&T Foundation grant Tuesday at a State House news conference.
The program mentors high school students and helps them cope with a wide range of issues. Winslow High School graduate Anne Veilleux says it helped her.
"I felt like things would be better if I took my own life and I wouldn't be a burden any longer," Veilleux said. "But JMG, and along with my mother, showed me I am an important person and there are ways to improve the way I see myself."
Gov. Paul LePage attended the news conference and praised the public-private partnership for helping kids in need.
Craig Larrabee, president of the group, says during the last 21 years, JMG has helped more than 25,000 Maine high school students graduate with the skills they need to succeed in life.
