Maine Library Wins Grant to Promote Financial Literacy

BRUNSWICK, Maine - A Maine library has been awarded a national grant to help boost financial literacy in the community.

Curtis Memorial Library in Brunswick is one of 21 libraries across the nation chosen for a program run by the American Library Association and the Financial Industry Regulatory Authority, or FINRA.

The $92,000 award will pay for a year-long series of community-wide workshops, presentations and other events to begin in September. It will also be used to purchase new materials.

FINRA's Robert Ganem says Curtis Memorial Library was selected, in part, because Mid-coast Maine can be an expensive place to live.

"And this project is going to focus on those families who are just getting by financially but who are eager to learn simple strategies to improve their financial health," Ganem says.

Ganem says the program is aimed at children as well as adults.
