Man Who Fell to His Death in Portland Identified
PORTLAND, Maine - Portland officials have identified a man who fell to his death Wednesday when a rear porch railing gave way as Donald Stain, 53.
Authorities say Stain lived in the building, located at 563 Cumberland Avenue. An initial investigation indicates that Stain was alone on a second-floor porch when the railing broke. Officials say he fell 19 feet and landed on asphalt.
Portland Police and the state Medical Examiner's Office are investigating Stain's death. They say it does not appear to be suspicious.
City building inspectors have ordered that all the porches in the building be closed for inspection. Two other buildings owned by the same landlord will also be inspected, officials say.
They say they're received no complaints about the condition of the porch at the Cumberland Avenue building.
