LePage Nominates Judge to Maine Supreme Judicial Court

AUGUSTA, Maine - Maine Gov. Paul LePage is nominating the chief justice of the state superior courts to serve on the Maine Supreme Judicial Court.

Justice Thomas Humphrey was appointed to the district court in 1993 by Gov. John McKernan, and to the superior court by Gov. Angus King in 1998. He's served as chief justice of the superior courts since 2004.

If confirmed, he'd replace Justice Warren Silver, who resigned Dec. 31.

LePage said he focused not on politics but on "qualifications, demeanor and integrity'' in choosing Humphrey.

All judicial nominees must be reviewed by the Legislature's Judiciary Committee and confirmed by the full Senate.
