Closed-Door Meeting Planned with Biddeford Police Leaders

BIDDEFORD, Maine - The Biddeford City Council tonight is scheduled to hold a closed-door meeting with the police chief and deputy chief.

The meeting comes as some residents call for chief Roger Beaupre's suspension following allegations that two former police officers under his leadership sexually abused minors.

Biddeford Mayor Alan Casavant says councilors want to hear the chiefs' side of the story, after a public meeting last week where residents spoke about the issue, "to allow the opportunity for the two chiefs to talk about their perspective about what's been said in public, to be able to answer questions regarding previous investigations."

The two former officers were investigated by the Attorney General's Office in the early 90's and 2000's but were not charged. Four people who allege they were abused are preparing to file a civil suit.
