Police: Drunk Driver Hits, Kills Teacher in Maine

YORK, Maine - A 24-year-old Massachusetts woman who was vacationing in Maine has died after being hit by a car that authorities say was being operated by a drunken driver.

Emily Zarnoch, of Quincy, was walking with her boyfriend Monday night when she was struck in York.

Police identified the driver as 21-year-old Carolyn Lee. She has been charged with manslaughter, drunken driving and leaving the scene of a crash. She was released from jail Wednesday on $50,000 bail.

John Zarnoch says his daughter was holding hands with her boyfriend and the impact took her out of his hand.

Her father says Emily Zarnoch was a month away from starting a new job as a middle school teacher.

Lee is due back in court in October. She didn't return a message seeking comment.
